Halloween Homemade Playdough Pals

Ghosts, ghouls, witches, and goblins are making their way to Halloween parties and we don’t want them to leave empty handed. Give those little Halloween haunts a spider or bat full of sparkly play-dough oozing out.

Or a witch with icky sticky and slimy threads of hair. Your little trick-or-treaters are sure to love this spooky party favor.

MAKING THE JAR

Place empty baby food jars in a pot of warm water. Let them soak until the labels fall off.

Wipe off any excess residue under warm water or by using Goo-Gone.

Paint the jars with primer.

After primer has dried, paint jars with chalkboard paint. I ended up doing two coats.

This is the fun part. Start cutting out the pieces to make the little creatures. I used black pipe cleaner for spider legs. I used sparkly black felt to make the bat wings and witches hat.

Hot glue the wings onto the black jar to make bat wings.

Flip the next jar over and hot glue the spider legs down.

I used a circle piece of black felt to cover the spot where I had glued down the spider legs. This gives a cleaner finish and keeps the jar stable.

Now you have your little spider body.

To make the witches hat, cut out a circle of felt. Then, cut a slit into the middle of the circle.

Wrap the felt into a cone shape and hot glue down.

I made a base for a hat instead of just putting it directly onto the jar. Hot glue the base to the cone and then the hat to the jar.

They are almost complete. I just used an excess piece of fabric to wrap around the witch as a skirt. Then I collected dead leaves and a small twig to make her broom. I secured the leaves with a piece of embroidery thread and hot glued it to her side.

Get that chalk out and start drawing on some faces. I used a corner of a wet paper towel to clean up the excess chalk residue. If you are not feeling very artistic you can always leave them blank and have the guests draw the eyes or just use googly eyes.

HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE SPARKLY PLAYDOUGH

Ingredients:
1 Cup of Flour
1 Cup of Warm Water with Food Coloring
2 Teaspoons of Cream of Tartar
1 Teaspoon Oil
1/4 Cup of Salt

Mix warm water and food coloring until you reach the colored desired. Remember it will lighten up quite a bit once you mix it with the flour.

Combine colored warm water, flour, cream of tartar, oil and salt in a bowl and set in saucepan over medium heat. Mixing frequently.

Remove from saucepan and knead until smooth. I added just a hint of flour to get the playdough to the exact consistency I wanted. Then we added in gold sprinkles.

Once playdough has cooled place inside jars. We left them oozing out a bit at first to look like gooey guts or witches hair.

Now your Halloween Playdough Pals are complete!

Make sure to keep an eye on them, they tend to run off when you’re not looking.
